NOSTALGIA BLOC 1
Into the amorphous Nostalgia scene? 80s, 90s? Me too.
My hunt for novel collage elements has led me to find some evocative bits of nostalgia in old forgotten magazines. I recently acquired a mound of old Life magazines that spanned from the late 50s to the mid 80s. These images came from ads in a magazine from 1984. I feel they deserve to be seen again in the context of this new [old] scene.**
Caveat: my scanner is not big enough to capture the whole page (Life magazine was huge). Deal. And enjoy.
More to come.
**If you don’t know what I’m referring to with this “scene,” I have in mind particularly the musicians that orbit groups/labels like Midwest Collective, Keats Collective, Fortune500, Telefuture, Future City Records, Aphasia Records, Girlfriend Records, Business Casual ‘87, also vlogs like Mr Nonsense, New Retro Wave, and Maniac Synth [not an exhaustive list, at all]. I’d say let’s just say it’s primarily an electronic music sub-genre, but I believe it extends beyond music and will continue to spread out and influence the wider [“world”, but most immediately I thought “American”] culture. If you’ve never encountered it, seek it out. It’s pretty fresh.
